Army chief congratulates Pakistan on ‘successful conduct’ of elections. ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (Reuters) – Pakistan’s army chief congratulated the country on Saturday for the “successful conduct” of its national elections, saying the nation needed “stable hands” to move on from the politics of “anarchy and polarisation”.
I extend my sincere gratitude and congratulations to the nation for the successful organization of the general elections-2024. I commend the dedication of the Election Commission of Pakistan, interim provincial governments, armed forces, civil armed forces, police, law enforcement agencies, election staff, media, and all other institutions and individuals who played a role in ensuring the integrity of the free and fair elections,” stated caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar in a message posted on X, previously known as Twitter.
“This momentous occasion is not just a testament to the resilience and strength of our democratic processes but also to the indomitable spirit of the Pakistani people. The participation and enthusiasm of people of Pakistan have been the cornerstone of this democratic exercise,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the significant voter turnout signals the public’s strong dedication to determining the course of the nation’s future. He remarked, ‘The voices expressed through the ballot box will bolster our democracy, and for this reason, the people of Pakistan merit heartfelt appreciation.
PM Kakar acknowledged that despite some instances of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the commendable efforts of security forces, civilian administration, and the Election Commission of Pakistan ensured the conduct of a free and fair election across the country.
“Their steadfast dedication to their responsibilities has played a pivotal role in ensuring the elections ran smoothly. Despite challenges, the people of Pakistan have demonstrated remarkable courage and determination,” he added.
